Intro
The look is very classic but with carbon reinforcements and technical features that hint at the great downhill potential and carefully thought-out design. It weighs slightly more than its orange sibling.
Walking
The stated ROM is the same as the orange Maestrale but in use you can feel the more rigid plastics tend to create slightly more resistance. The very clean shell design helps when tackling rocky sections or when wearing crampons.
Lab
There are two major differences compared to the classic Maestrale; a carbon-loaded Grilamid shell, which means more support when skiing but also a twitchier feel, and a liner with a more rigid foam, which is certainly less comfortable but which provides more precise skier input transmission. The booster strap ensures greater precision and rebound than the classic velcro one. The package has been enriched with a Velcro spoiler for the calf and two midsoles of varying thicknesses allow for a more customized setup.
Skiing
For everyone else, the classic orange Maestrale is more fun and playful, and certainly damper and more docile. This is a boot that should be skied at speed and with good technique. Do this, and you’re assured excellent precision on all types of terrain, including steeps, and good support on cruddy snow when you need it. Unlike Scarpa’s Quattro, this boot is more suitable for those with wide feet or those seeking greater comfort.
