Intro
The Agent remains unchanged, save for a new graphic; each model in the line is available in two colors. The Agent 2 comes in six different sizes, ranging from 155 cm to 187 cm. With a very traditional construction and shape, it's a lighter version of the legendary Dancer, Faction's big mountain ski. Featuring a long effective edge, wood/carbon core, and minimal rocker, this model is designed for maximum performance on all types of snow. Anyone looking for a lighter ski with a more modern shape should check out the La Machine line.
On the snow
We'd have liked to test a longer size this year, to see if it could compete with the Navis Freebird, but unfortunately it wasn't possible. The 177 Agent 2 remains one of the most versatile models in its category, aimed at anyone wanting a single ski able to handle all conditions. Sporting classic geometry, limited rocker and beefy sidewalls, it takes a few runs to get used to. Turn entry takes preparation and execution, but then it glides easily and remains stable at high and low speeds. The Agent 2 shines on hardpack and crud, where it instills confidence and has few, if any, rivals, though manages less well in powder, where the tip struggles to stay afloat and needs speed to break through. Not ideal for beginners, but lots of fun for everyone else. No issues in ascent.
Lab
Base flat after five passes through the machine. No structure, smoothed, lots of wax. Very thin edges 1.45 x 1.65 mm at 88.7°, base bevel 0.9°. Protruding sidewall, good (if rusty) finish. Edge too thin for this category, needs tuning.
