Intro
Voted 23/24 ski of the year in the Touring category, the Agent 2 remains unchanged, as does the Verbier-based manufacturer's entire touring lineup. The construction and shape are quite classic with a mix of carob wood and carbon fiber, ample edge contact, and a less accentuated rocker to work better in variable snow conditions. Available sizes range from 155 cm up to 187 cm: one of the few manufacturers offering such a large selection. The weight is in line with direct competitors in this class (around 1,500 g), but for fans of the brand seeking something lighter and more new school consider the La Machine series which has more carbon in the structure.

On the snow
To get the most from this ski you need to take it out for a few turns; once you get to know it you'll soon realize it has your back in all conditions. It's very smooth and is super fun to ski on. It performs great both at slow speeds and when linking both short and medium turns. If you're looking to carve big turns at high speed in deep powder, you'll need to choose a longer length to get more float: being easy to ski, agility is not compromised. It has loads of edge contact and a stable tip, which require precision during turn initiation, but which also ensure turn closure is easy and instinctive. The tail provides good support but does tend to lose some precision in extremely firm conditions. It's also extremely versatile on the skin track, delivering good grip and excellent balance during kick turns. Once again this year, one of the best skis reviewed.

Lab
Slightly concave at tip and tail. Only smoothed, not much wax. Decent edges 1.7 x 1.8 mm at 88,9°, base edge 0.9°. Rough finish, rust, limited edge set and jutting sidewall. Needs tuning. Performance will change completely once properly tuned.

Safety, a culture of doubt

Beyond the basic definition, there’s nothing as variable as snow conditions and the human psyche when under emotional stress. That's why, after purchasing the right self-rescue kit and airbag backpack, it’s paramount you do your research, train, scrutinize your decisions and, if necessary, opt for plan B. And, at least for now, don’t rely on artificial intelligence.

Intro
Products for mountaineers

Once you’ve chosen your skis, boots and bindings, your thoughts then turn to harnesses, crampons, ice axe and helmet, though perhaps not everyone, and not straight away. While it’s true that when starting out, especially for those transitioning from resort skiing who just want to start surfing some pow, the important thing is to get self-rescue equipment. It’s equally true, however, that the sport we love is a combination of two words: skiing and mountaineering.

Split All Mountain
Intro
Boards, boots, and bindings for splitboarding

Materials are evolving, which is increasing the opportunities for pushing the boundaries of mountaineering splitboarding. It’s no longer just about easy tours, a few jumps and a beer. Thanks to innovative new setups and growing knowledge within the community, long ascents and steep terrain no longer intimidate.

2025
Intro
Skimo bindings

They’re probably the element of your setup that’s evolved the most and seen the most crossover between disciplines. Which is why in general lighter bindings have adapted to make allowances for the trend for opting for wider skis, with hybrid drilling patterns and a greater selection of ski brakes. But the aspect that requires most scrutiny is the height difference between the front and rear pins.
