Intro
A brand-new project for Nordica: remaining true to its alpine roots it is launching an overlap boot with GripWalk sole (so also compatible with alpine bindings) and ski/walk mechanism. It looks like an alpine boot at first glance, but once you put it you soon realize that the weight is in line with the competition. Clean and simple in shape, it has an interesting and innovative shell closure system.
Walking
The Michelin sole provides excellent grip, but unfortunately it's not great for walking without skis and isn't suitable for long bootpacking sections. Cuff rotation when skinning up the mountain is limited by the high shell walls that impede optimal ankle movement. A boot suitable for less ambitious verticals, around 600-800 m (2,000-2,500 feet) going at a slow, steady pace. The unique shell buckle closes both levers with one swift movement.
Lab
It feels like you're putting on and taking off an alpine boot; you need to pull the cuff/shell flaps wide apart, so your instep doesn't get stuck— something that resort skiers are well used to. Once in position, comfort reigns supreme. The padded liner is well made with a soft foam, supported by the high internal volume. The cable buckles work better than the competition, but the booster strap is a little too flimsy.
Skiing
Ultra-fast transition time thanks to the precise, user-friendly ski mechanism and using just one lever to close the shell. This boot has no problem driving skis over 100 mm underfoot; it's not a stiff, super precise boot, but is soft and progressive and easily deals with the torsion generated by wide skis. Excellent rearward support thanks to the high shell walls and robust ski/walk mechanism. Anyone looking for a one-boot quiver to ski on and off-piste with the occasional uphill thrown in, as well as warmth and comfort, should take it into consideration.
