Intro
After years of just changing the graphic and a few other tweaks here and there, the Zero G line has been completely revamped. The 80 mm has gone, while three models between 88 and 105 mm remain, also available in women's versions. The first thing you notice is the tip with new race-inspired skin notch. This is one of the few skis tested for this issue without any carbon whatsoever. Poplar and paulownia keep the weight down, while ash underfoot adds stiffness and dampness. Weighing in at around 1,250 g, this is the ideal choice for skiers who like to take on plenty of elevation gain.
On the snow
When you hop aboard these skis you immediately note how light they are, and the straight-up-and-down shape. The shovel is narrower and the rocker shallower than average for this segment. Blizzard's new direction for the Zero G is all about the uphill. And that's where this ski shines. The long sidecut guarantees comfort on hard, steep terrain and it's well-balanced and agile even on tight kick turns. The limitations become obvious in descent, where it's unpredictable at high speeds. The soft, buttery shovel contrasts with the stiff tail, creating an imbalance. You need to take it slow, avoid carving and turn with your feet, but this ski remains difficult to handle. Could be a good option for long spring traverses, even with steep sections, but definitely not for beginners.
Lab
Tip and tail very concave, not flat even after ten passes through the machine. No structure, just polished and waxed. Narrow edges 1.5 x 1.55 mm at 88.8°, base bevel 0.75°. Finish needs work, overly sharp edges, protruding sidewall. Needs tuning but there's not much edge to work with.
