Intro
What with skis getting increasingly wider, the Zero G 95 has effectively become the middle ski in the series, supplanting the 85 (there's also a 105), and, though not the newest of models, in terms of weight and size it's pretty much perfect for this category. Made from paulownia and carbon fiber, its progressive rocker makes it versatile on all types of terrain and snow. Season after season it's been updated but never completely overhauled, resulting in good underfoot support and softer flex at the tip and tail.
On the snow
For those used to Light skis, this could well be a good find, as it's not a million miles away from that category. You don't feel any difference on the climb, and you'll save some energy (it's balanced in switchbacks, and the stiff construction is great on ice and traverses). Descents are no problem as long as you don't overdo the speed. It's better on powder, where it floats pretty well, or on packed snow. Not so great on chop or crust. Sudden changes in snow conditions call for good timing and proper loading, or you need to slow down. The stiff tail enables you to control the amount of edge or foot pressure based on your preferences or skill level. There's a different feel at the tip, where its light weight makes initiating turns more difficult and prone to chatter. But if you're a good skier looking for a ski that will get you to the top with plenty of energy left over for a technical descent, this won't be a problem.
Lab
Noticeably concave base that the standard runs through the tuning machine didn't fully fix. Only smoothed, not waxed. Thin edges 1.5 x 1.2/1.3 mm (not much) at 89°, base edge 1.3°, rough finish, protruding sidewalls. Tuning essential.
