Intro
The most sophisticated model in the Transalp range, designed for maximum performance in ascent thanks to generous use of carbon, titanal, and paulownia. Weighing in at just 1,250 g, this is one of the lightest skis tested for this issue. The skin notch, the same used for all skis in the line, is minimal yet easy to use. The Transalp family is a varied one, ranging from 84 to 105 mm underfoot, available with or without carbon core, titanal inserts or made entirely from wood. This model has a classic shape, minimal rocker at the tip and tail and positive camber underfoot—ideal for riders who mainly stick to groomers.
On the snow
The Transalp 92 CTI Pro is minimalist in shape and precise in ascent, where it holds its own on technical terrain. The shallow sidecut helps to grip the snow when traversing and combined with the low weight, makes it one of the stand-out climbers in the category. A bridge between the Light and Tour categories, as we see them. In descent, it takes a little getting used to; the tip is soft and forgiving but the tail is stiff, responsive and tends to go straight, making it hard to ski balanced, smooth turns. Which takes a lot of energy, especially from those without a solid grounding in technique. Mounting the binding a little further back than the recommended position could help with manageability. This is a ski for anyone who loves the climb and taking on hard, steep terrain, but not the most versatile in the category.
Lab
Slightly concave along the entire length even after ten passes through the machine. Structure well applied, wax less so. Narrow edges 1.9 x 1.5 mm at 89°, base bevel 1.2°. Rough finish with patches of rust, needs tuning.
