Intro
This is the third season for this boot, but each year the Dynafit R&D team make small improvements to the initial design, an offshoot of the Hoji Pro Tour. A solid, well-made boot, excellent both in ascent and descent. It suffers a little from the passing of time and the progress made by the competition, in particular the buckles and cables that are not immediately easy to use. Props for the ski/walk mechanism that with a single flick of the lever lets you transition without needing to fiddle with other buckles. It's guaranteed for five years.
Walking
Phenomenal cuff rotation and very little plastic resistance when walking; big verticals are only a matter of your own personal limits. The ski/walk mechanism is mind-blowingly easy and is still the standout in this category, even years after its debut. Once the buckles are correctly adjusted, in one smooth movement you can engage or disengage the mechanism and you're good to go. Walking and bootpacking are easy thanks to the grippy Pomoca sole.
Lab
The liner is very well made and it's easy to put on, even for higher volume feet. This is a pure skimo boot and you need to figure out how to use it before setting out; it's essential to sort out the various parts of the cuff and keep the cables in order. The heel is firmly locked in thanks to the ratchet strap over the instep. It's roomy around the forefoot, but with a very snug fit around the ankle and malleolus bones. You'll probably need a good bootfitting.
Skiing
For anyone looking for a boot that offers a supportive flex while the spine stays completely locked, the Radical is one of the best on the market. There's a learning curve as the cuff is so upright, without being adjustable, so it's not always easy to flex your ankle when turning. Once you've set it up how you like it, it's incredibly supportive and ultra precise in torsion; it can easily drive fat skis over 100 mm. The volume between the shell and the cuff is not well proportioned. Narrow feet looking for precision will need to go for a smaller size to fill the high-volume shell, with the risk of a vice-like grip around the ankle bones, where the cuff is very snug.
