Intro
No changes have been made to one of the most iconic boots in Dynafit’s lineup, the result of the Hoji Pro Tour project and now in its fourth season. Excellent hiking and skiing performance, very well finished, though suffering a bit now from the advancing years and progress made by the competition, in particular due to the buckles which require a little bit of figuring out. The walk release system mechanism deserves a round of applause, as it lets you transition solely by actioning one buckle.
Walking
The ski/walk mechanism is mind-blowingly easy and is still the standout in this category, even years after its debut. Once all buckles are correctly adjusted, the entire cuff can be closed or opened with just a single action. Excellent ankle ROM, very little resistance from the plastic when walking and a streamlined shape which makes this ideal for climbing too. The sole limit to the vertical gain and technical terrain you want to tackle is your personal ability.
Lab
Very easy foot entry and exit, even for those with large feet. Plenty of space in the forefoot and very snug around the ankle. La chiusura ganci in tradizionale stile skialp necessita di un po’ di studio prima di partire, i cavetti devono essere ben in ordine e le plastiche posizionate nel modo giusto. The heel is always firmly anchored courtesy of the well-thought-out volumes of the liner and the ratchet on the instep. Forefoot buckle closure is a bit ineffective.
Skiing
This continues to be one of the most supportive boots on the market for supporting you if you get into the backseat, as the Hoji system basically anchors you into place. It does require a little getting used to as the cuff is very straight and cannot be adjusted, and it’s not always easy to close the ankle angle to initiate curves. Once this is dialed in though the boot offers extremely supportive edge control and very precise arcing turns—even with wide tools— and this boot can easily drive fat skis over 100. The volume between the shell and the cuff is not well proportioned. Those with narrower feet will inevitably have to go for a smaller size to fill out the shell, with the risk of hot spots around the ankle bones. Bootfitting is required.
