Intro
Newly released by La Sportiva, this is Kilo’s sibling on steroids, and shares the same shell and part of the cuff. A completely new tongue improves support when skiing and makes the boot suitable for skis over 90 mm. Clean and essential contouring and well finished detailing. Clearly aimed at fast touring, i.e. if you’re after the feel of a Light boot, but are looking for something more enjoyable in descent.

Walking
If it weren't for the (albeit modest) friction and resistance from the plastics in walk mode, the feel would be on a par with a race boot. It's certainly among the best in its class for touring, tackling rocky sections or cramponing up snow. Compared to the Kilo, the presence of the tongue makes it easier for novices to stay balanced when skinning across flat terrain, or for short descents with the boot in hike mode.
Lab
Very easy entry, with soft plastics and excellent cuff opening. The liner is well finished and comfortable right out of the box. Generous fit around the forefoot, but difficult to adjust despite the shell buckle, more precise the heel retention. Tongue and cuff elements tend to get in the way of each other and take some practice to align. The ski/walk lever performs well and provides forward lean adjustment.
Skiing
Once locked down, boot supportive excellent, though quite roomy around the foot. Unfortunately, the shell buckle tends to squeeze rather than truly secure and the foot remains poorly anchored. It’s a boot you’ll want to ski gently, without driving too hard, and with a good central stance as the limited aft support makes it hard to recover if you get into the back seat. As soon as you ramp up the speed and drive the cuff, the shell starts to struggle and distort, meaning you lose edge precision. Excellent boot if you’re seeking comfort and lightness and are willing to sacrifice some downhill performance. It's a boot suitable for many skiers.
