Intro
This is the brand's (and Atomic's) first touring binding, and is available in a version with only leash (the one we tested) or Leash & Brake, with brakes available in 80, 90, 100, 110 and 120 mm widths, and a leash, and is one of the few bindings out there to feature both solutions as standard. It’s not a new binding, but is a rational and solid piece of kit that receives regular upgrades. The version we tested had an intermediate hardness spring at the heel (W), but you can also swap it for the softer (M) or harder (Exp) ones.
Fit
If there ever was a truly hassle-free binding, this is it (along with Atomic’s own-branded Backland Tour). The standout detail that characterizes it in this sense is the metal toe bumper that helps center the boot on the pins with ease—almost with your eyes closed. Next there is the large metal flap for actioning the brake, which is a real user-friendly solution general tourers will like. The heel is among the most solid in terms of lateral stress absorption, despite not using any patent innovations such as ATK's Cam System. The climbing aids rest on the pins, while flat mode requires the heel turret to be rotated through 90 degrees. The only downside is that it uses springs to vary the release values, but to make life easier in this regard there’s also the MTN Summit—see our test in this Guide—which adjusts via a traditional screw system.
