Intro
A new addition to the MTN carbon line, filling the void between the 86 and 96, not counting the narrower 80. It uses the same materials as its siblings, including the carob core, and the same cap sidewall construction as the MTN 96. It has a contemporary shape, with an underfoot width ideal for modern light skiing and a weight at the upper end of the category, which translates into downhill performance.
On the snow
As with other skis around this width, the crowded space between 88 and 91 mm underfoot, it's versatile and suited to modern skiing. Interestingly, it's the only 91, but on the snow there's not much difference between it and an 88/89. It easily initiates turns, more so than the 80, similar to the 86, and releases and changes edge just as easily. Its lightweight tip floats well on fresh and soft snow, its preferred habitat, but makes it more twitchy at speed or on hard terrain, where you really need to stay centered and in control. It's more versatile and easy to manage than the 80, ideal for short/medium turns on powder days, and ably and playfully adapts to soft terrain. But its versatility makes it suitable for an even wider range of uses and users.
Lab
Flat in the middle and tail, concave at the tip. Structure applied, little wax. Reasonably good edges 1.4 x 1.6 mm at 90°, base edge 1.5°. A little phenol on the edges, tail edge too sharp. Needs a little tuning here and there before taking it out on the snow.
