Intro
This is a more functional upgrade of this Slovakian manufacturer’s GR Olympic Tour, which now features a much longer adjustment plate. The basic philosophy remains their razor focus on minimalism. Almost every mechanical feature is unique when compared to other low-tech systems, the most evident being the toe, which is opened via a lever positioned laterally on one of the pin jaws. This is not the only binding to feature a toe-mounted brake, but it’s still a striking feature. Even the screw to adjust heel release values is elegantly suspended between the rear wings of the heelpiece.
Fit
Centering the front pins is easy, but will take a bit of getting used to if you're coming from a traditional spring-loaded pin system. Parking and deploying the front brake is likewise very simple and effortless. However we found the heel piece difficult to rotate, though the two flaps do make it easy to hold: if rotation doesn’t ease after you’ve used it for a while, consider just sticking to using the two flap climbing aids. The heel unit is engineered from folded sheet metal and so very light, but the voids this leaves will inevitably get packed with snow... and wet snow is extra weight.
