Intro
The Mistico sports a geometry for those wanting to take on the highest peaks, even in the winter months. At just over a kilo in the 178 cm, there’s no doubt the Mistico is a ski for the uphill-oriented skier. Given the structure of the ski, the downhill performance feels solid and perhaps a little too powerful for less confident skiers. We often confuse lightness with lack of overall ski performance, but like any ski, the more we adapt to the style and shape, the more we can manipulate the turn to deal with the conditions we encounter. If you would prefer a ski in the mid 80mm range, you would do well to check out its counterpart, the Magico.
On the snow
When entering and exiting turns, this ski really does perform well. Given its weight, the skier needs to drive it, but at speed this ski really shows it true colors. At 90 mm it floats well in powder for those looking for a lightweight companion in the winter months. Like most skis in the 1 kg range, there are some control issues if the skier is unable to position themselves and flex the ski. A lighter skier could struggle with this ski. We tested it in some epic, slightly heavy spring powder which seemed to be no match for the Mistico. On crust though the tips would catch, making it hard to control.
