Intro
New for winter 2024–25, it has the same shape and closure system as the F1, with Pebax tongue, but instead of using Grilamid for the cuff and shell, it uses Desmopan CQ MBC, a more sustainable plastic. It also has just the one buckle strap, eliminating the extra power strap found on the F1. Overall a more comfortable, approachable boot than the F1. Complete with Recco Reflector.
Walking
The cuff rotation on the F1 isn't as generous as that on the LT, GT or XT, or even others in the Light category (especially to the rear), but the SE seems smoother, perhaps down to the materials used. The effective ROM is identical to the F1. Take into account that the SE weighs 120 g (4 oz.) more, though it's still an acceptable weight for long verticals.
Lab
Entry is super easy, facilitated by tipping the cuff back (though those with a high instep may find it trickier). La calzata è tecnica, con piede fermo e con un foam abbondante e sostenuto, in grado di conservare le forme e i volumi impostati per tempi più lunghi della media e paragonabile a F1. The tongue conveniently detaches on one side and the closure is easy to adjust overall (not just the BOA), even with gloves on. The little cord attached to the ski/walk lever is useful.
Skiing
The lack of play around the forefoot makes it precise and supportive on the downhill. Compared to the F1, when paired with a Light (or even a light Tour) ski, you don't notice a lot of difference on the edge or when sitting back, a little more when driving. Predictably, the wider and heavier the ski, the more difference you notice in terms of flex. Compared to the F1, overall it feels nice and smooth, with a progressiveness just right for the category (and beyond). The lack of a second power strap also affects the flex. A boot with wide appeal, even demanding skiers looking for a more playful boot.
