Intro
This is twin brother to the Skorpius CR II, with which it shares the shape, closure systems, ski/walk mech, and last and sole. Like the Skorpius, it’s engineered from Pebax Rnew, but with no carbon filaments in the plastic. The result is a boot that maintains the same focus on practicality and comfort, combined to provide even more accommodating skiing performance, making them ideal for all-round use.
Walking
The Skorpius’s spec sheet is spot on: there’s ample room in the forefoot before any bootfitting work, which favors a natural walking action, aided also by good, friction-free cuff range of motion. The liner is quite sturdy, provides good balance to the ample cuff mobility and delivers good support, even on missions carrying heavy packs. The swing-lock ski/walk system is less bulky than many traditional ones—it just takes a few goes to get accustomed to the action.
Lab
Put them on, close them up, and go ski—just like an alpine boot. They’re easier to put on than the average boot in this class, and just as easy to get out of, and once on, the feeling of comfort is immense. An amenable boot, even for those new to touring. Plus, it has many features that make operation a breeze, from the removable PU insole, to improved thermal insulation when needed, to the wide Velcro power band combined with the upper buckle with numerical scale for precise micro adjustment.
Skiing
The few (though substantial) differences when compared to Skorpius CR II yield a boot that will suit more general use by intermediate-level tourers. The carbon-free plastics are more forgiving and have an elastic response that’s easier to exploit by those with a less powerful, more tentative skiing style. Plus, the room around the front, which makes for easy walking, makes for a more instinctive steering feel, a factor that could appeal to intermediate tourers, whereas the more advanced might prefer something that fits a little snugger. The flex is plush and progressive, but does tend to collapse with aggressive inputs or heavier weights, making it ideal paired with light, not overly fat skis, the kind that sit centrally in this class. Supportive if you find yourself in the backseat, and sensitive edge control.
