Intro
Last year this boot was in the preview section, this year we felt it only right to test it. As the beating heart of the range, it is the leading model in the MTN line for women from French brand Salomon. Comfortable-yet-understated shapes that adapt to most feet, and Ultramid plastic that guarantees support and progressive flex for a product that prioritizes comfort.
Walking
In walk mode this boot feels like a high-performance slipper. Super comfortable and warm, it moves well uphill even if the rounded tip blocks your view a little when you take your skis off to proceed on foot on rocky ground. Good cuff mobility and a level of agility that promises long days and big verticals. It comes with the classic Salomon ski/walk mechanism: some like it, some don't.
Lab
If you're looking for simplicity, MTN Summit Pro is the boot for you. You encounter a little resistance when putting it on and taking it off, but it's comfortable (though not ideal for anyone with a high instep due to the closure system that puts pressure right on the critical point). The lower closure is a three-point BOA system that wraps the whole foot uniformly, from the forefoot (where there's a little extra space in the toe box) up to the instep. The upper boot is kept firmly in place by a simple 45 mm easily-adjustable power strap with buckle.
Skiing
As with all exceptionally comfortable boots, especially in this category, the descent is hindered by the softness of the plastic and the shape of the liner that make it less precise and not suitable for high speeds. On the plus side, if you're looking for a short, slow pleasure cruise down the mountain, it's an excellent companion for your adventures. It's decidedly progressive, and despite the high volume, once the BOA system is properly closed, the internal space is reduced to a minimum and there are no gaps. This is not a boot for technical or steep terrain, it comes into its own on open slopes and happy hour at the ski hut. Perfect for skiers who want eye-catching equipment.
