Intro
MTN Summit is Salomon's touring lineup, which features different models all developed from the same shell. The women's model comes in Pro and Pure versions: the main difference is that the Pure has a softer flex, thanks also to the different materials used. Special features: comfort, lightness and ease of use. The sole is made from 30% recycled rubber to make it a little more eco-friendly.
Walking
Definitely a boot for major ascents or multi-day trips. Put these on your feet and they’ll never feel tired. The cuff range of movement is excellent and makes walking and skinning swift and smooth. The laterally operated ski/walk lever has its pros and cons: it's quick to close, compact, snag-proof, solid but a touch difficult to operate with thick gloves.
Lab
A slipper-like fit. Foot entry is a breeze, but once on, the liner tongue needs careful placement as it tends to slip sideways. One tip is to use laces on the liner (it includes lace loops) to give it a little more structure and hold. A roomy but well-balanced boot. Excellent for those with problematic or wide forefeet. The closure system is intuitive and functional. The Boa system works well and cinches up uniformly.
Skiing
Comfy volumes and very soft plastics make this a great partner on the skin track but it underperforms somewhat in descent. Precision is not its strong point: although the Boa wraps the foot very well, it still fails to provide the necessary support. Dare to crank up the speed and it tends to collapse forwards and the shin power strap can’t cope with the forces when being driven more powerfully. Never fear though: for cruisy skiing and average power transmission, this is an excellent boot which will guide you back to the valley without too much exertion, especially in open terrain and forgiving snow. The perfect boot for the tourer who likes to grind out big vert then descend without stress.
