Intro
A fresh remake from Zag, this ski had us hooked from the very first turn. The Ubac shines for the intermediate to advanced skier—but don't be fooled, you need to ski it! The new-school ski tourer mindset is clearly visible in this ski. From the graphic to the shape, we know you’re going to love it. On the wider side for the light category, you could see this ski out on the hill all year round and even at the feet of the new generation of free tourers who enjoy wide open slopes and more progressive styles of skiing. If this speaks to you, wait no longer and give it a try.
On the snow
The Ubac caught the eye of most testers from the start. Unlike its predecessors, it felt good from the very first turn. Like most skis, you need to test it thoroughly and, luckily for us, the conditions allowed us to do so. Not a model for the fainthearted, you need to ski it. While turn entry may be a little challenging at first, the exit will have you excited for the next. In keeping with its new school mentality, the Ubac brings a playful aspect to the Light category. Heavier than others in the category, it feels responsive and controlled at higher speeds. Don't be fooled, even if it’s a little weighty when bootpacking or on the skin track, it more than makes up for it in descent. With its early rise and softer tip, you lose a little torsional stability, but this speaks to that new generation of skier who wants a bit more freedom to play with the terrain. This ski can handle all conditions if you’re looking for a good time.
