Intro
Tested for the last three years in a row and winner of the People's Choice award last year. With no women's XT equivalent, it's the best of the F1 range with buckles and remains a solid choice for a wide section of the public within its segment. It's a versatile boot suited both for long missions with plenty of vertical, and enjoying the downhill, providing superior support for the Light category. If you would prefer a more athletic option, go for the F1 LT.
Walking
Whether bootpacking or skinning it provides good terrain feedback, though not up there with the best in its category. The cuff roatation is well balanced between fore and aft. Though the ROM is generous, it's very controlled, more so than many light boots, which instills confidence on technical terrain. To top things off it has a Vibram sole, for firm traction on rock and exposed ridges.
Lab
Entry is pretty effortless if you tip the cuff back. The LT2 Tour liner is light yet supportive, the Intuition foam hugging the foot nicely. The tongue instills confidence right from the offset, and you can customize it in various ways, like adding a pad on the calf. The fit is uniform but on the tight side; if you have wide feet you may feel a little pressure around the toes. The buckles are easy to operate.
Skiing
The technical fit that may not suit everyone on the way up, becomes its overriding strength on the way down. It's incredibly precise and the flex feels stiff for a boot weighing just a kilo. The power strap provides a lot of support to the shin and the shell buckle with cable lets you adjust the closure exactly how you want it for accuracy and firm edge hold. The easy-to-use ski/walk mechanism does the rest. This is a boot that, even after a long climb, makes you want to let rip in descent, blasting a few wide turns or taking on some steep terrain. Don't pair it with too wide a ski, it's still a lightweight two buckle boot so works best with 80–90 mm underfoot.
