Intro
A new lease of life for the Stelvio, remaking a classic for dedicated skimo enthusiasts. Take a minute to understand what you're dealing with. Built in the heart of the Alps, this ski reflects decades of tradition, culture and—let’s not forget—innovation. Some would call it the underdog of the season. Our testers were initially skeptical due to its generous camber and 20 mm radius. Have no fear though, we’ve put it through its paces, and for those looking for a lightweight, traditional ski, the Stelvio Life could be a great choice for your upcoming ski touring adventures.
On the snow
We first took this ski out in 25 cm of fresh powder—not ideal for this ski, or so we thought. It quickly grew on us. The new Stelvio Life takes you for a ride when entering and exiting each turn. Compared to previous Ski Trab models, the Stelvio Life was nice and playful, winning over our testers. Flotation isn't a priority for this ski but knowing it can handle most conditions instills confidence when venturing into the backcountry. Looking at the camber you might worry about too much rebound, but this ski is damp and has a progressive feel to it. Many of the testers enjoyed this ski on hard pack, charging down the slope like it was a slalom course, each turn as playful as the last. The 171 cm size seemed to be the ideal length for all our testers, who thought that the 181 wouldn't have the same playfulness.
