Intro
As the years go by, more and more models come on the market to cover the various categories-within-a-category that make up the Light segment. But the F1 LT remains the best option for a stripped-back, athletic approach with fast, fuss-free transitions; more so than its XT and GT siblings, which have other strengths, but entail a certain amount of compromise in terms of speed/ease of use and weight. The difference is in the BOA dial closure on the shell and Carbon Grilamid LFT plastics (also used in the F1 XT).
Walking
On the workbench the fore and aft range of motion is more limited than some of its direct competitors, however out on the mountain this is irrelevant as it's still greater than that of the ankle itself and is perfectly in line with the category. The same goes for the stiffness of the flex; it's stiffer than other models, but this should be viewed as supporting the foot, not as a drawback. It also offers a good amount of support on traverses.
Lab
Entry is easy, as long as you tip the cuff completely back. This is not a high volume boot for easygoing touring, the fit is technical and precise, even for narrow feet. The closure system is intuitive (the BOA dial on the shell works flawlessly in this case), even out on the mountain wearing thick gloves.
Skiing
The fit is the most precise and sensitive of all the light touring boots, excellent news for skiers looking for immediate, direct power transmission to the binding and ski. The focus on performance is also evident in the precise closure system comprised of a BOA dial and two cuff straps. The flex is progressive, not abrupt; supportive even when you drive it hard. The firm Intuition liner also plays its part. All this translates into a responsive boot that loves to find the edge, supports the shin and stops you sitting too far back. There are three forward lean positions, the factory setting being a little too vertical for off-piste skiing. There's also a Velcro spoiler to attach to the back of the liner should you need it.
