Intro
Part of Dynastar's freetouring line, together with the 88 mm model and the M-Grand Mont, which is similar to the 82 but designed more for fitness touring. It's versatile and responsive, focusing on substance and snow feel over weight, for demanding and old-school skiers, and feels surefooted on steep terrain.
On the snow
It initiates turns easily if you have a little old school technique, and carves beautifully for a light ski (though at the heavier end of the category), supported by solid sidewalls at the waist. You'll need a centered stance, but it can change turn width in the blink of an eye as maneuverability and versatility are its secret weapons. Stiff, yet forgiving at the tip and tail, which adapt to the terrain, it's more versatile than the 82 mm width underfoot would have you believe; it even holds its own in fresh powder, thanks to the well-shaped tip. On steep sections and couloirs it really instills confidence. An old school ski, it might not be for everyone, but nor is it particularly hard to handle due to its feeling of solidity. It does what it's built to do, and does so well, and in the skinny ski segment is streets ahead of the competition.
