Intro
Now in its third season (in this v2 version), together with the Solar II and the women's version the Stellar II, it’s part of the touring range of the Italian brand based in Ziano di Fiemme, and sits between the race-focused Stratos VI and Stratos Hybrid, and the free-focused Vanguard and Vega. The main difference with respect to the Solar II is the use of carbon-reinforced bio-based Pebax Rnew, instead of the more basic Pebax Rnew. Shell adjustment is through an easy-to-use Boa dial.
Walking
One of its notable features is its swing-lock ski/walk system, which is different from other approaches to this mechanism: once you get used to it (very quickly) it’s swift and practical to operate. Its performance on the skin track is average for the category, and the forefoot is wide, which allows the foot to expand during push off, imparting a very natural-feeling walking action. The liner doesn’t have a gusset above the Achilles and delivers a mix of freedom and support, without compromising ankle mobility.
Lab
The intelligent Boa system runs through cable guides on the shell and delivers uniform and precise closure. Foot entry and exit, along with extracting and insertion of the liner, are very simple, as is boot adjustment—even with thick gloves. In generale è tutto il progetto a comunicare un feeeling take it easy: basta indossarlo, chiuderlo e partire. Ed è comodo pur rientrando nel segmento prestazionale della categoria.
Skiing
Despite feeling incredibly comfortable, the overall sensation is of a balanced boot, making it a great companion for challenging missions and committing objectives where performance is paramount. Flex-wise, unlike the distinctive hard-stop found in certain Light boots that use a ton of carbon, the flex here is plush and progressive, meaning support, power and good edge control when using light- and classic-sized skis. There’s ample room in the forefoot—more so than in other models with a similar comfort/performance ratio. If you’re looking to ride more powerful skis and push boundaries, then you should check out the Vanguard. But for those reluctant to sacrifice comfort—even on a boot with enhanced performance—and seeking a more docile response, this is one worth considering.
