Intro
Unchanged since last year, this is Dynafit's leading model for modern touring and versatile use in the backcountry, with a focus on skiability over gram counting; if you're looking for a lighter ski there's the Blacklight range. It's fun while also having your back, conserving energy and proving reliable in sticky situations. In the range there's also a 97 mm model for a more easygoing freeride approach, and as of this season, for a similar audience, the Ridge 95 (not tested).
On the snow
Not a groundbreaking new model, but a solid, reassuring choice for that large section of the market looking for an easygoing ski that can handle any one of the situations the backcountry can throw your way. Not so light as to limit its downhill performance, its weight is nonetheless low enough to take on any vertical. Its underfoot width is where the category is currently at, and makes it pleasingly versatile. It's smooth and mellow in its response, even on bumpy terrain, and its laid-back nature forgives a little hesitation. It easily changes the arc of the turn, even making it tighter, though doesn't help in the release. Calm and collected in descent, it'll get you down the mountain, even with a heavy backpack or in the midst of a white out. A ski that lets you engage autopilot, for old-school tourers as well as newcomers fresh from the lifts, that doesn't disorient them with behavior that is radically different to what they're used to.
Lab
Concave at the tip and tail, flat after 10 passes through the machine. No structure, just sanded, waxed. Reasonably good edges 1.4 x 1.6 mm at 89.5°, base edge 0.9°. Rough but ok finish, needs a little tuning, but not much.
