Intro
An entry-level model for light touring (leaving aside the lure of the ultralight R170), it nonetheless has everything you need, as well as a few tempting optional extras from the brand that has a made-to-measure approach to ski bindings; like a brake up to 110 mm in width, and a heel pad to widen the base of the heel piece. We'll start by saying that, compared to the other models like the classic Guide, the ramp angle is almost zero. The toe piece is similar to other lightweight Plum models, leaner than the Guide but not minimalist, with two solid springs per toe arm.
Fit
It slides easily into original Dynafit inserts, while in others it's best to add one at a time, the old-timey way. The ergonomic toe piece lever works well with gloves or pole. Handily, the word 'ski' appears when correctly positioned. The heel piece is low and has two flaps, one on top of the other. Rotate it to engage flat mode; it's easy to handle and the length helps to get purchase on the spring which is initially quite stiff. The (Light) brake is available as an optional extra, but it works well with the other components and is easy to set without pinching your fingers via a lever to lock and engage it. The crampon receptor needs to be mounted, but is included in the box. The lateral release on the heel unit can be adjusted between 4 and 10, while the forward release is 8, though it also comes in version 4 and 6. It has a 25 mm adjustment plate.
