Intro
From North America to Europe, the occasional ski tourer to the weekend warrior, this ski won’t have you wasting anytime getting used to it. Out of the box it skis easily and has a nice shovel for optimal flotation in powder or dicey conditions. Take it to the month of April and you'll find it handles hard snow just as well. For years this ski has dominated the Light category, even as new skis come on the market. The main reason for this is that it is by far the easiest ski to ski in the category, a great all-rounder. A ski suitable for all, all season long, the Wayback offers solid, reliable performance even for the pros.
On the snow
A ski that impresses you right from the first turn will always be a favorite. Conditions allowed us to try it out both in powder and on hard pack. Given the shape it sure floats well and the semi-cap sidewall handles most of what you would encounter in a day of ski touring. Though a solid all-rounder, it may fall short for those looking for specific qualities. Skiers, especially those on the heavier side, looking for torsional stability to ski steep terrain, might find it doesn’t offer enough control and look elsewhere.
Lab
Slightly concave at the tip, it flattened out after 10 passes through the machine. No structure, the base is coarse but waxed. Good edges 1.8 x 1.7 mm at 89.5°, base edge 1.3°. Rough but ok finish, better to give it a thorough check.
