Travers CS

TESTED 2023
Incredibly user friendly: entry and exit are a breeze, and the comfort is exceptional. And it makes you look pretty good in descent too

    Intro
CS stand for Carbon Sole, while in its twin GR stands for Grilamid. There's also a version in TPU that adds an extra 200+ g (0.4 lbs.). In other words, coming in at just under a kilo (2.2 lbs.), the Travers CS is Fischer's top-of-the-range boot in the light touring segment. Carbon Sole is a carbon-aramid insert embedded in the sole.

    Walking
We're not exaggerating when we compare it to a hiking boot. The 80° ROM is incredible in both directions, although you can feel a little friction under the calf due to the overlap between the gusset fold and the gaiter elastic. Even on edge the freedom of movement is excellent. The ski/walk mechanism is tricky to disengage without taking your weight off it.

It's quite different from other Light boots, despite its weight that puts it squarely in that category. The difference lies in its simplicity and ease-of-use; entry and exit are comparable to an entry-level alpine boot and is a cut above in this respect, together with the Dynafit Blacklight. Once you're in, it's as comfortable as can be (somebody mentioned the word 'armchair'), while ringfencing performance. The BOA connected to the external cable with lace guards keeps the heel firmly in its pocket but doesn't 100% lock in the forefoot.

    Skiing
You need to find the right amount of tension in the buckle strap on the cuff. In other words, it needs to be cranked tight to get the power you want. Having said that, it's a boot that is a pleasure to use even at an intermediate level, maybe for someone earning their turns for the first time, as it has a resort boot feel and a progressive flex that is stiff, but not abruptly so. When being driven hard it does tend to bulge a little around the pivot point. Comfort and responsiveness go hand in hand, the foam in the liner (that comes with laces) is soft, pliant and yet precise, and the gaiter keeps the damp out.
