Intro
Essentially, it’s a Blacklight but with more forgiving materials, namely Grilamid instead of carbon-loaded Grilamid for the shell and carbon-loaded Grilamid instead of carbon composite for the cuff. As for everything else— from the sole to the liner, the closure system, the 101 mm last, and the cuff mobility—it's the same boot. One thing that has changed is the weight—over a kilo while the Blacklight is under—and skiing responsiveness.
Walking
At the moment, this is one of the most comfortable boots in its class courtesy of the wide and high forefoot which lets the foot move naturally by spreading and contracting without hindering blood circulation. The swift, intuitive one-touch ski/walk system also contributes to the overall feeling of comfort. Abundant friction-free cuff rotation is about average for its class.
Lab
For a boot in this class, they’re easy to get on by positioning the liner under the plastic tilting flap on which the Twistfit closure system acts and tilting the cuff back by 45°. Twistfit closure is swift and easy but does tend to leave too much space, a problem that can be resolved by thermoforming if needed. The Dynafitter 5 liner foam is thin but dense, and wraps the foot comfortably. It’s quite a soft boot: we recommend using semi-rigid insoles.
Skiing
While the clog excels in terms of room and comfort, the cuff is much more performance-oriented: it contours above the ankle bones favoring good edge grip and progressive flex, which starts off gradual before becoming more powerful, especially when the second upper Velcro strap is cinched tight. The generous forefoot is comfortable when hiking but limits downhill performance. Dial tensioning is a little too localized above the midfoot and on the instep, but also fails to seat the heel well. Overall, the foot sensation is a mix of localized voids and hotspots that require careful thermoforming, combined perhaps with the use of a customized insole. The rearward support is fine, it can cope if you sit back. To get an edge in this boot you really need big feet to fill the shell.
