Intro
One kilo by 85 is like the Holy Grail (with little exaggeration) of light weight and skiability, a bit overshadowed by the allure of the 90 mm waist or just under, but still relevant. And Ski Trab has fully embraced this philosophy for years, fully focused on the "real" mountains, far from the groomed slopes. The time-tested 14-part construction, the aramid-fiber torsion box between ash and lightweight wood, the strong bridge between the two high-quality edges, and the great base finish lend strength to its light weight and are the unmistakable mark of this Bormio brand.
On the snow
Ski Trab's trademark is the open mountains. And Magico.2 is a ski for all conditions you can come across on a haute route or other long outings, thanks in part to its light weight. It's undaunted by committing terrain and variable snow conditions. It's solid under foot, with loads of grip, but is lightweight towards the tip and tail, which helps to maintain reasonable speeds. It exits turns a bit more easily that how it enters and changes edge and prefers controlled, conservative speeds and a more gentle skiing style. It doesn't necessarily require perfect technique, so long as you're smooth and sensible. Within these boundaries, it's a reliable ski that builds confidence that you'll always overcome challenges and get to the bottom of the mountain. If you hit the accelerator, the soft tip can give you troubles. But then it wasn't designed for breakneck speed.
Lab
Slightly convex at the tip (helpful when starting a turn), flat elsewhere. Fish-scale pattern with linear grooves at the center, waxed. Good edges, 1.5 x 1.8 mm at 89.5°, base edge 0.5°. Good edge finish, removed at tip and tail, well tuned overall and ready for the snow.
