Intro
Top di gamma della proposta Salomon per lo scialpinismo, ne rispecchia bene la filosofia: prestazionale e ingaggioso, ma en souplesse. It features a carbon spine to support the cuff and add strength to the structure, a ski/walk system with a small lateral lever, and Boa dial that tensions a cable that snakes across the shell to lock the forefoot, combined with a double upper power strap. The sole is partly made of recycled material.
Walking
Forefoot space helps ensure a natural walking gait, aided by the excellent mobility of the cuff, which is friction free both when walking and also efficient rearward flexion and opening of the ankle when pushing off. The Boa closure keeps the heel almost entirely locked in place, whilst still allowing opportunities for bootfitting. Whilst there’s excess space up front, the midfoot is well held, but not uncomfortably so. It features a problem-solving fit—once the preserve of Dynafit.
Lab
This is one of those models that seems to belong in another category, considering the ease of foot ingress and simplicity of adjustment—all achieved without compromising efficiency and fit. The liner is lighter and more streamlined than the one found in the other boots in the series, while inside, the contours are similar. What makes the difference is the way the Boa dial tightens to create a uniform wrap, aided by the 45° plastic insert on the instep that blocks the heel.
Skiing
Designing a boot that strikes the perfect balance between skiing performance and comfort is no easy task. One small mod and you find out you’ve compromised ski performance or comfort. The S/Lab MTN is one of the most successful models because it does a good job of getting this balance right. It can rightfully be defined as one of those boots that’s comfortable and practical, while maintaining focus on solid performance and skiing enjoyment. Il Boa è ben studiato e, grazie al collegamento con il laccio plastico a 45° sul collo del piede, tiene fermo il tallone. The second power strap situated right at the top of the cuff aids power transfer. Added to this is a streamlined foam of the liner that transmits inputs effectively. The flex is soft, but all these details work to make it well balanced.
