Intro
In the AP version it has a new semi-automatic brake and double magnetic flap instead of one single riser. An additional 60 euros (65 USD or thereabouts) gets you the full optional version which we think is the best value for money (even in the standard version) for light touring, as it combines the best technology the brand has to offer at a light weight and accessible price point. The toe piece has been intricately shaped to remove any excess material, while the heel piece uses the Cam Release System, and the plate underneath is buffered at the end to increase elasticity. With the AP system, the brake is even easier to use and the double magnetic flap is incredibly user-friendly.
Fit
The classic ATK toe piece with one fixed toe arm and one with two springs; a tried and tested, easy-entry system, ideal for Dynafit inserts. There's little to say about the Cam Release System: step in is smooth, but above all it copes well with torsion and lateral play on the downhill; an extra bit of help when sliding, where the heel piece provides more stability compared to other pin bindings. Compared to the standard Crest, the semi-automatic brake makes life easier, especially with gloves as it's easier to handle than the traditional button; press down on the brake and rotate the tower. To engage the brake just rotate the heel piece. The two magnetic flaps make two climbing aids, the first of which is slightly lower than the Crest, and is super easy to use with hands or poles.
