Intro
Another new release from Trentino-based La Sportiva, Sender is positioned as the mirror opposite of the Kilo XTR within the Tour world. This is a boot that nods to freeride lovers and can easily be used as a do-it-all tool for groomers, off-piste and touring, paired with wide and well-structured skis. Cabrio construction, four Alpine-derived buckles and a GripWalk sole which is also approved for use with piste bindings.

Walking
The declared 64° travel is spot on: ankle mobility is great during both forward and rear flex, courtesy of the very low positioning of the shell and cuff connection. Undoubtedly one of the best 4-buckle boots out there: lacks the range of movement of the lightest, minimalist boots in the class, but more than enough even for long missions. A bit cumbersome when bootpacking. The sole has rounded edges and tends to slip out a little, meaning it's best to opt for crampons sooner rather than later.
Lab
Comfort is the order of the day here. Suprisingly easy to get into for a four-buckle boot and very comfortable volumes. Well-padded liner but with fairly rigid foam. The eagle-eyed will notice the shell is similar to the Vanguard, while the cuff and tongue are completely new. Easy and intuitive to adjust and close the buckles—nothing like La Sportiva’s previous offerings. Pity about the non-elastic power band on the cuff.
Skiing
The ideal boot if you’re crossing over from groomers and looking for an all-season boot that delivers all-day comfort. Perfect for ski patrollers and coaches. In terms of purely downhill performance it’s not top-notch, but holds its own both on- and off-piste. Its nice, smooth flex is definitely one of its strong points, and it offers just the right amount of support even for heavier skiers on wider skis. Pushed hard, it lacks a bit of precision on hardpack; the shell tends to bulge out, leading to a drop in efficiency when driving skis hard.
