Intro
Finally, an innovative new release. Dynafit has combined the experience gained with the Radical and the Hoji closure systems with that of the lightweight, minimalist design of the TLT to create the new Ridge. It’s one of those boots that we could define as a crossover between a Tour and Light, but for weight and downhill performance it sits perfectly within the Tour class. It’s built entirely from Grilamid, and sports a new shell shape that's much more precise and ergonomic than Dynafit’s more recent models.
Walking
The generous 70° cuff rotation makes it clear this boot is a specialist climber. The shin does have a tongue, which is important in descent, but the patented Floating Tongue system makes resistance from the plastic almost imperceptible when walking. The appearance is more like a Light than any other boot in this class. Il classico becco in punta è molto ridotto, ciò rende più difficile scalinare su neve e costringe a montare i ramponi più spesso. Di contro i pin sono posizionati nel punto ottimale per l'efficienza in camminata, essendo più arretrati.
Lab
Clean lines and an essential design. A single buckle plus Velcro on the cuff and a dial closure on the shell, all easy to adjust even with gloved hands. The throat is wide, meaning they’re easy to get on, even for those with a high instep, and the liner is very comfortable once the foot is correctly seated. The closure system takes a bit of studying, and the Boa tongue needs to be carefully positioned, which is not immediately intuitive. Chiusura Hoji pratica e potente, come da tradizione.
Skiing
The very straight cuff, a stand-out feature of the Hoji system, requires some getting used to. Funziona molto bene nel passaggio da salita a discesa, cosi come in caso di arrentramento, ma non è cosi immediato in fase di inizio curva. However, the soft and not overly hard flex comes to the rescue, providing good support even for less powerful skiers. Molto bello l'alloggiamento e la tenuta del tallone determinata dal rotore, ancora troppo spazio invece in zona avampiede. There are no plastic buckles here, and when driving wide, powerful skis the lack of precision is evident. The ideal setup would be with 90 mm skis underfoot for those seeking climbing efficiency and first-rate downhill performance, perhaps also on technical, committing terrain.
