Intro
In Dalbello's touring collection, the Quantum Evo is the lightest boot, while the Quantum Free is a little heavier, making it more suited to downhill skiing. The QE is made from carbon-loaded PA, while the heavier Quantum Evo Sport is all PA. The women's model has a PA cuff and a carbon-loaded PA shell.
Walking
The forward rotation of the ankle is right at the top end of the category thanks to the dual link cuff, and even during long, powerful strides the freedom of movement to the rear is second to none. All with zero friction, which is impressive in a segment where there tends to be a lot. As a result, walking feels fluid and natural. On edge there's lots of freedom of movement, less expert tourers can rely on the generous cuff rotation even when the strap is closed.
Lab
Boot entry is what you would expect from this segment, it requires a minimum of attention. The two buckles are easy to use, even when wearing gloves. The small top buckle is a little hard to find (though on the plus side it's unobtrusive), but the spring helps to keep it in place and the Quick Release function is super handy for avid tourers. The fit is sporty and technical, with a roomier toebox than the F1 LT and GT, but no slop. If you have a high instep, make sure you try it properly.
Skiing
Soft for an all-purpose boot, the support isn't immediate. Initially there's a lack of resistance, but then it's progressive without stopping abruptly. Sensitivity is aided by the firm liner with internal mini strap that holds the tongue still, and semi-rigid foam pads and gel sacks that fill in and support the area around the tendon. Rearward support when sitting back isn't immediately forthcoming and the shell bulges slightly. The foot is well cradled, but it's worth getting it heat molded to get the most out of the already good fit. Generally speaking, the responsiveness of the shell and cuff seems more evenly matched compared to the Quantum Free.
