Intro
Aside from the 65 UL model, which we tested in the Race section, the Lynx range includes the 82 UL and its twin the 82, both designed for speed touring by the Slovenian ski maker. The differences lie in the construction and choice of materials; the shape is identical. The UL is just over 200 g lighter thanks to the use of Airlite Laminate Woodcore, a carbon-reinforced paulownia core, instead of the Laminate Woodcore blend of various woods. The result is a must-have bit of kit for athletic light touring.
On the snow
One of the lightest, narrowest skis in its class (its closest competitors being the Atomic Backland 86 UL, Blizzard Zero G LT 80 and Hagan Ultra 84), it's also one of the least demanding and niche models, making it that bit more versatile for a light ski. It manages this thanks to a well-designed flex pattern, that is ever so slightly softer at the tip and tail so as not to jeopardize support in case you involuntarily sit back, but at the same time makes it more manageable overall, without needing to be driven energetically. Ultralight doesn't have to mean stiff, and this ski is fun and responsive without being twitchy, and can be used on all sorts of terrain. It's not fazed by hardpack or changes in turn width, provided they're not too abrupt and aggressive; unlike other skinny skis it doesn't sink in powder and it holds up on crust. It can even take on the odd couloir, as long as it's not too technical. A ski that more than hits the mark.
