Intro
The Ambin massif sits on the Italian-French border and the range's wild summits serve as the inspiration for the artisans at ski makers Ambin. Their product catalog features four models, each of which can be ordered with custom graphics. With a waist width of 90 mm, the Farinel is the narrowest and most versatile.
On the snow
Ambin skis are all handcrafted and made to order. For the first year of tests for the Buyer's Guide, the personality of the Farinel really impressed us. Sold in a single length, this ski makes a great first impression, and its shape makes it a good candidate for a one-ski quiver, giving you the same sensations on groomers as with skins. It's not a ski for everyone, but will be well received by pros and other talented skiers. The edge bite immediately helps turn initiation on packed snow, inviting you to apply some weight to optimize carving. At the same time, it releases from turns easily which facilitates changes in turn radius. It closes turns well if you stay well centered, but punishes if you lose form through the turn. Skiing is helped by a spot-on binding mount point. All things considered, including weight, this could be the all-round ski you've always been looking for.
