Intro
It has a fresh new look and now goes by a slightly different name—Unlimited—but under the hood Nordica's touring line is unchanged. The series will continue to offer three models that between them cover most of the market, from the 88, to the 94 and the 104. All are made from poplar with a fiberglass carbon chassis and carbon stringers throughout the length. We tested the 94, and while it's not the lightest out there, it strikes the right balance between uphill and downhill performance. It has an ever-so-slightly rockered tail, classic camber with good edge contact and pronounced rocker at the tip.
On the snow
The Unlimited is one of those skis that just feels right as soon as you put it on; it's easy to handle, intuitive and predictable. At home on all types of terrain and snow, it's easy to handle at slow speeds, but also powerful on edge. Its construction makes it a fun, lively ski and you can play around and vary rhythm and turn width. Its nice shape lets you sail over deep snow even at slow speeds, despite its fairly modest width. The tail is responsive and accelerates well out of a turn even on compact snow, with no torsion. The only (small) downside is that on that type of snow the high rocker at the tip tends to chatter, which can affect your confidence during turn initiation. You soon get used to it, but at first it is a little daunting. On the uphill it struggles a little on very firm terrain due to its deep sidecut but for the most part has no issues.
Lab
Convex then concave at the tip, flat in the center and concave at the tail; still slightly concave at the ends after 8 runs through the machine. Reasonably good edges 1.6 x 1.3 mm at 89°, base edge 1°. Tip and tail detuned fairly well.
