Intro
A minor update for an iconic Scott ski, which continues to cater to those who see the ascent as a necessity in order to have a great time on long, technical descents. It sports a new Paulownia and beech-wood core with aramid and carbon-fiber reinforcements to keep the ski light and agile on all slopes and in all conditions. Its trademark 3DT shape, with more sidecut at the tip and tail and almost straight at the wait, gives the ski excellent stability and makes it easier to start the turn. The tip rises up sharply where the ski contacts the snow, and the ski has tons of edge grip.
On the snow
Despite the passing of time, the Superguide is still one of the best skis of its class and is an excellent compromise between light weight for the ascent and performance on the descent. Designed for technical, physically fit skiers, it can also give some reassurance to intermediate skiers who need support and grip on hard terrain. Not super intuitive, it's less suited to beginners or less confident skiers. The tail is very responsive and has nice pop. On the downside, this makes it harder work at slow speeds and in tight spaces. It performs best in mid-radius carving, on corn, and on steep slopes and hard terrain, and is a dream to ski at higher speeds. In fact, the faster you go, the more confidence it conveys. It floats respectably in deep snow, although it takes a bit longer than some other skis to come back up to the surface. Its weight makes it perfect for longer outings, technical sections, or climbing with your skis on your back.
Lab
Very concave, not totally fixable after 9 runs through the tuning machine. Only roughened, not waxed. Decent edges 1.4 x 1.4 mm at 90.5° (a ski with thinner edges), no base edge. Needs tuning before taking it out.
