Intro
There's lots of technology and research behind Rossignol's Escaper family, for a ski, the 97 Nano, weighing in at just 1.3 kilograms for the 177, a record for this length. Air tip with honeycomb construction derived from the traditional Super 7 freeride line and designed for light weight at the tips. The ski has a super thin Aero Profile at the edges, which is also to reduce weight as well as to lower inertia when skiing. Accentuated but gradual rocker and firm flex resulting from the combination of materials, such as the titanal beneath the binding and strips of basalt paired with wood and carbon fiber.
On the snow
It's almost scary to go off-trail they're so thin and lightweight. Right away, you get the feeling it's an easy, forgiving ski that works well for most skiers. Like all skis of such small dimensions, it's not great at high speed or under the stresses of broad curves, because it doesn't have enough mass for this sort of use, but it's a lot of fun in short radius turns and tight spaces. You might not expect it, but it's also good on broken snow and crust. The very straight tip doesn't catch, making it easy to curve. Excellent on the climb, one of the best in its class. The weight-to-floatability ratio is great for beating a trail in soft snow, and the stiff construction is precise in the most technical sections. It's the ski for traditional skimo enthusiasts who like to go wide and enjoy the descent, but who always want to take on major elevation gains.
Lab
Concave tip and tail. Deep nicks along the base that can't be removed. Only roughened, not waxed. Decent edges 1,5 x 1,4 mm at 88,9°, base edge 1,8°. Rust and edges to be redone, needs tuning before hitting the snow.
