Intro
The Adret line is the lightest from this brand out of Chamonix. While all the others are produced in Poland, this one is made in Tunisia. The 85 is the widest, alongside the 78. Although still lightweight skis, the few extra grams aren't a big deal, given how fun these are to ride for their weight class. Of particular note is the extended, progressive — almost rockered — tip. It's constructed of Paulownia wood, carbon fiber and multiaxial kevlar, along with shock-absorbing components in search of fun and ease of use.
On the snow
Zag is on a mission to provide fun skis that are easy to ride, but never boring. Because even the pros want to have a good time. They achieve this with a high tip (and ample tail) for a fun but easy ski. It turns easily without the need for great strength and flows nicely with the terrain, dampening vibration at moderate speeds. It's forgiving yet precise, instilling confidence. It likes to be skied gently and gradually, with control (as you seek the right balance between the softer front and harder back), and responds accordingly. It's not a wide ski, but the tip manages to stay up in powder. We don't recommend it for steep slopes or gorges (at least not as much as the Salomon MTN 80 Carbon or Dynastar Vertical 82), but it could be fine for a more progressive spirit (someone like Guillaume Pierrel, maybe?).
Lab
Slightly concave at the tail, flat elsewhere, nice wave pattern that's a bit deep, little wax. Decent edges 1.3 x 1.5 mm at 88°, no base edge. Nice grind finish, edges not so good (some rust, edged at tip and tail to be replaced).
