    Intro
Stance is Salomon's take on the all-mountain ski. It features a very traditional construction, with the straight sidewalls typical of a groomer ski around a sandwich of carob, poplar and titanal. Without much tip rocker, an essentially flat tail and a whole lot of bridge, you would expect it to perform great on hard, compact terrain. Groomers, sidecountry and moguls are where it thrives, but given its relatively light weight (1.8 kg for the 182 cm model), we thought we'd give a pin binding a try to see how it got along as a one-ski quiver ski.

    On the snow
When you grab it from the rack, it feels like it would be a very demanding ski, since we're not used to seeing such stiff skis with so little tip anymore. On the climb, it goes like a champ on hard terrain, with zero torsion and perfect grip in the track. That said, it's definitely not the classic ski for a Sunday outing with the family. When you point the skis down the hill, that's when the real fun begins for anyone who loves hard, icy, chopped-up terrain. Stance's response at the end of every turn is very smooth and predictable. It encourages you to play with different rhythms, turn widths, and moguls like a kid at ski school. Paired with a powerful boot on a talented skier, it can be used as an all-mountain ski for groomers and short backcountry excursions. There's no need to get an especially long ski, since it wouldn't float anyway. Short for true steeps gives a sense of great confidence.

    Lab
Concave at the tip with the rest slightly convex, made flat after 8 runs through the tuning machine. No structure pattern or wax. Good edges, 1.4 x 1.9 mm at 90°, base edge 1.5°. Edge to be removed at tip and tail, needs tuning.
