Intro
As stylish as ever, but no change in the substance for the leading model of the tour line that, just like last year, proves to be a solid all-rounder. The four buckles are clearly influenced by alpine boots and regulation is easy. The Vibram sole provides excellent grip on all types of terrain and is durable over time, while the Pebax plastic can be easily molded to the shape of your foot during bootfitting. The adjustable forward lean is a big plus.
Walking
There's a little too much forward resistance on the uphill caused by both the liner and the cuff buckles. Ideally, you'd keep them completely undone, but then they rattle and move around annoyingly. On the plus side, the rearward cuff rotation is excellent. Walking and bootpacking feel natural, especially for this category, but the volume of the front of the boot is pretty bulky when scrambling. This model is warm and comfortable even after a long day.
Lab
The new booster strap is great, higher up and with a better hold than last year. However, the buckles are still hard to regulate and open when wearing gloves. The buckle on the shell immediately goes right to the end of the ladder, especially once the liner has flattened out a little, and the foot starts slopping around. Comfortable entry and exit, especially if you put the liner on first; in this respect the BOA works perfectly.
Skiing
To see it in the store you'd expect a freeride level of performance, but the Dispatch is really designed for a more chilled skier who prioritizes comfort above all else. The Pebax plastic provides a nice, progressive flex but is a little too soft, especially for aggressive skiers or powerful skis. Excellent rearward support, essential for anyone who spends a lot of time in the backcountry; the lateral stiffness is equally good. The high volume of the shell is a shame as it reduces precision on the downhill, especially for skiers accustomed to using their feet going into a turn. The adjustable forward lean lets everyone find their sweet spot.
