Intro
This ski has a sandwich construction with straight sidewall all the way down to the edges and a Paulownia core beneath a carbon-fiber layer, both sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass, for one of the most intriguing weights of its class for long ascents. It sports Kästle's trademark Hollowtech tip, designed to minimize tip vibration in challenging snow conditions, as well as reflective inserts for night skiing. It's available in lengths ranging from 154 to 186 cm to cover all needs of the marketplace. It also comes in a slightly heavier TX 93 UP version, which offers great value for the money.
On the snow
A classy ski, very well finished and with an elegant look, it gives you a great feeling right away as it adapts to your skiing style and not other way around. It performs well on long ascents, partly down to its light weight and partly because of its balanced shape, with just the right rocker and sidecut radius. It's lively on the descent in the short and mid-radius turns typical of old-school skimo. Just set the cruise control and you can maintain that pace for the whole descent in almost all snow conditions. It has a soft tip for fun in powder, where it helps the ski float even at slower speeds. But you need to be careful not to get too greedy and lengthen your lines at higher speeds. Its lack of mass will do you no favors here, and the tip will start to vibrate, making it harder to handle. The same can be said for chop and crust.
Lab
Very concave, not perfectly flat after nine passes in the machine. Deep, worn pattern, not removable; waxed. Good edges 2 x 1.7 mm at 90.1°, base edge 1.4°. Overall an ok finish, the base needs flattening and there's a little excess sidewall material.
