Intro
This is the only sub-kilo touring boot in Tecnica’s lineup, but don’t be deceived by its light weight: in descent, it’s a fun boot that’s ideal for those with the leg muscle to handle it. Not a boot that will appeal to everyone but its character will win over demanding women tourers wishing to tackle major ascents and have fun on the down. Shell and cuff in carbon-infused Grilamid: you can feel it lacks the full carbon fiber cuff of its unisex sibling.
Walking
The hiking motion, both fore and aft, feels smooth and range of motion is excellent, worthy of a super light: we’re at the uppermost limits in terms of frictionless freedom of movement for the category, but the liner lends that little support that helps out when sidehilling or negotiating technical section. This makes it the ideal boot for tackling major height gains or wearing for multiple days. Great for bootpacking and even for safely tackling the odd section of mixed terrain.
Lab
A minimalist but very enveloping liner, which confers an immediate confidence-inspiring sensation of support despite not being particularly padded. The fit is snug, but the overall contouring is one of the most precise out there for the average foot and less restrictive than other top-of-the-range offerings, with a complete absence of hotspots and a well-cradled, comfortable foot. The shell is made with CAS technology which allows ample opportunity for customization for a boot of this category, and buckles are easy to operate with gloved hands.
Skiing
The magic happens once you lock down the ski/walk lever. The T-Hike mechanism locks the cuff perfectly, and this, paired with the fit, ensures perfect heel retention. The flex profile feels very high and progressive and it doesn’t really feel like you’re driving a boot weighing in at just 900 grams. Edge hold and transition are outstanding: these are not twitchy, hard-driving boots, but under decisive inputs power transmission is smooth and direct, and rearward support is good if you find yourself in the backseat. If we wanted to nitpick, it does lose a few points for precision (but very few), but makes up for this in power and responsiveness. It climbs and skis very well, and will please demanding women skiers, who won't feel like their feet are crammed into a vice: ideal for haute routes and long missions with challenging descents.
