Intro
The Dispatch family is K2's freetouring collection. It includes two women's models; the LT, with a stated flex of 110, is the higher end of the two. There are three men's models, including the Pro with a flex of 130. It's a four-buckle boot that could easily be mistaken for a freeride model, but in terms of weight and cuff rotation it's exactly what you would expect from a modern touring boot—for long uphills and fun in descent.
Walking
The cuff rotation is excellent and friction free, up there with the very best in the Tour category, and ideal for big verticals. On long traverses you need to deal with the tall cuff and liner, as well as the roomy fit. It's comfortable and agile when walking without skis, even more so than some popular models in its class, like the Tecnica Zero G Tour Pro W. The dual-density Vibram sole feels solid, though the shape of the toe doesn't help on small footholds when climbing.
Lab
Entry and exit are easy, and in terms of fit there are no gaps or pressure points (it has an intriguing bump around the ankle bone that looks almost like post-sale heat molding). The liner wraps the foot very nicely, with reinforcements in all the right places and laces for maximum precision. But the four buckles are its real strong point; they're functional, intuitive and easy to adjust, with the one nearest the toe reversed. The ski/walk mechanism is so easy to operate you can do it with your eyes closed.
Skiing
As soon as you put it on you feel the urge to jib and throw tricks. It's a playful boot, one that could work for freestylers expanding their horizons to include the backcountry, turning it into a kind of natural park. It's responsive and agile, favoring lateral over fore and aft movement. The high cuff provides lots of support both to the front and rear, helping when you sit back, while the flex feels stiffer than stated. If we had to find fault with it, it would be that it finds the edge immediately, not giving you time to find it yourself. But this could be seen as a plus for improving skiers. In short, it's fun, playful and youthful.
