Intro
At first glance, one might mistakenly expect this to be a women's version of the highly popular Camox Freebird. Instead, it's the standard all-terrain model leans more towards groomers and freestyle and all-out skimo, but in a pinch it can be skinned and used by the new generation of skiers who love a twin-tip and rotations and are looking to explore a bit of sidecountry. Its blend of poplar and fiberglass makes it perfect for a bit of carefree fun.
On the snow
There are skis that are hard to pigeonhole. The Camox Birdie is one such ski. It has aspirations of the open mountain and flying free through the air, but for now it's best if it just has some fun in the moguls and mounds off to the side of the groomers. A bit of exploration farther afield is fine now and then, but not too far. It's heavy underfoot and you can feel the solid construction that gives the edges their bite — such a strong bite that, at speed, it can be hard to get the flex needed to start the turn. It seems made for going straight, and maybe that's what it's designed for: the approach to kickers or getting a feel for rails at the snow park. But when you push it a bit harder, the construction gives and turns almost soft and not very progressive. Oriented towards resort touring and fun at the snow park, the ski floats decently in powder and remains a fun, creative ski in its field. It's like a niche within a niche.
