Zag Ubac 95 and 102

The complete restyling of the ski touring line of the Chamonix-based brand.

Touring Preview, the first test event of the year organized by SCC Sport Concepts & Consulting OHG, remains an unmissable appointment on Skialper's calendar. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Hochfügen ski area in Austria’s Zillertal, retailers and industry professionals have the opportunity to preview and test the latest innovations for the upcoming winter season. This event also serves as a unique occasion to kick off the selection process for the Buyer’s Guide 2026.

Among the standout offerings, Zag's catalog caught our attention. For the 2025-2026 season, the Chamonix-based brand has completely revamped its iconic Ubac line, a symbol of ski touring. The new collection features an updated construction with a poplar and paulownia woodcore, ensuring greater stability without compromising the lightweight feel that defines the range.

One of the key innovations is the Semi-Cap system along the entire length of the ski, combined with ABS sidewalls that enhance power transmission, making the skis both responsive and easy to handle. The lineup includes four models, ranging from the lightweight Ubac 89 to the more freeride-oriented Ubac 108, with a particular focus on the versatile Ubac 95 and Ubac 102.

The Ubac 95 presents itself as completely different from its predecessor, with a new, decidedly new-school shape that transforms a classic ski touring model into the perfect choice for those who want to have fun without sacrificing lightness. The construction features an entirely revamped structure, developed around a woodcore mix of poplar and paulownia, reinforced with carbon and fiberglass, which ensures both lightness and excellent elastic response.

Compared to the past, we now see the addition of ABS sidewalls along the entire length of the ski, which improves energy transmission and provides greater torsional stability. A titanal reinforcement plate has also been added in the binding mounting area, while the tip features a rubber insert that absorbs vibrations. Lastly, the topsheet is made up of 50% high-quality bio-based resins.

At just 1430g in size 178, it is the most versatile ski in the lineup, perfect for tackling demanding ascents and enjoying the descent. Surprisingly suited to all types of snow, it performs excellently in powder as well as on hard-packed or chopped-up snow, never losing grip and always staying afloat, as long as you choose to ski at moderate speeds. For those looking to stay with this type of ski but push the limits a bit more, we recommend opting for a longer size.

Wider and more substantial than its 89 and 95 siblings, it allows you to open up the throttle with total control. For deep powder lovers, there’s also the 108.

The older sibling of the Ubac 95, the Ubac 102, is a completely different ski, designed for more demanding skiers who prefer wide turns and high speeds. While sacrificing a bit of lightness (1600g in size 181), it offers greater security and support, making it an ideal option as a one-ski solution for any adventure.

The core structure remains that of the Ubac line, but with a wider turning radius and a new-generation shape. This design allows you to push beyond the boundaries of classic touring, adding a freeride touch for those who, in addition to the pleasure of skiing, also seek support and flexibility for jumps and tricks.

For greater maneuverability, we recommend choosing your standard size, while those aiming for maximum stability can opt for a longer size.

The complete overhaul of the Ubac line, with a significant leap in performance and a decidedly cool topsheet design, positions the Chamonix-based brand in a highly appreciated market segment. This positioning will allow Zag to align itself with leading brands for the new generation of ski mountaineers, such as Faction and Black Crows.

In short? We're sure we'll see many of them on our mountains!
