Salomon MTN 96 Carbon

The redesign of the MTN line: more sustainable, more efficient.

Share

The MTN line has always been a testing ground for innovation and the evolution of Salomon's structural and technological solutions. Through the products in this range, the Annecy-based company develops, tests, and brings to market, season after season, the results of extensive research on cutting-edge materials and technologies, ensuring top-tier performance.

MTN Carbon is the most sustainable range in Salomon's catalog, focusing on reducing the environmental impact of production without compromising performance. Through meticulous Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis, the company has undertaken an eight-year journey that has led to a 21% reduction in the environmental impact of the MTN line compared to its original 2017 version. This achievement has been made possible by the use of recycled materials and a design process inspired by eco-design principles, optimizing production efficiency and overall sustainability.

For the upcoming season, the updates will apply to the MTN 96 Carbon, MTN 91 Carbon, and MTN 86 Carbon models, while the MTN 86 Pro, MTN 84 Pure, and MTN 80 Carbon will remain unchanged.

The weight and shape remain identical to the previous model, but don’t be fooled by appearances! While it may seem like the same MTN 96 as always at first glance, the differences from the past are deep and significant. In addition to a refreshed, more attractive and modern graphic, the true revolution lies in the structure and materials used.

Starting with the base, made of 50% recycled material, which was already featured in the 2023 edition but is now improved with a new composition to ensure superior glide. The most significant change concerns the sidewalls, now made from 100% recycled ABS, a choice that reduces the environmental impact of this component by 38% compared to the previous version.

The internal structure has also been rethought to improve skiing comfort: vibrations are further reduced, making the ski even more stable and manageable. The tip features cork, which helps absorb vibrations and improve smoothness. Finally, the topsheet is now made from 77% bioresins, taking another step forward in sustainability.

The heart of the ski, however, remains true to tradition: a core made from Carob wood, ensuring responsiveness and reliability to deliver maximum performance on any terrain.

Without a doubt, this is one of the most balanced skis on the market, capable of combining simplicity and versatility with high-level performance on any type of snow. It’s hard to find a flaw: it naturally adapts to every skier and every terrain, making it an ideal choice for those seeking reliability without compromises, with its width subtly catering to the lightweight product segment.

The well-calibrated rocker in the tip and tail ensures excellent flotation on fresh or soft snow, while the camber, extending over 71% of the ski’s surface, provides stability and precision on hard and icy terrain, enabling safe and high-performance control.

Thus, it proves to be a true all-rounder, extremely versatile and reliable. Its traditional shape gives it a classic soul, making it perfect both for skiers who are more traditional and for ski mountaineers looking for an all-round model to use as a single ski in any situation.
