Intro
It's just celebrated its second birthday and is one of the most popular models on the market. Expectations were high for this boot, and we can confirm they weren't unfounded, even after twelve months of testing in different situations. Compared to 2022, when it was awarded for its originality, this time it has stiff competition in the shape of the Gea RS, which beats the bestselling hybrid boot on comfort.
Walking
It walks well, better than other boots in this class. Precise on the diagonal, thanks to its subtle, minimalist design, it loses traction on rock and mixed terrain due to the GripWalk sole, but this is a problem common to all hybrids, offset a little by the shape of the sole which facilitates the stride. The cuff rotation is above average. This boot needs good heat molding if it doesn't feel immediately comfortable, or it'll make you suffer. There's less freedom of movement when walking compared to the Gea and Gea RS.
Lab
Comfortable entry and exit, as long as you have extremely narrow feet. This is a tight-fitting boot, so anyone with bigger feet will need to adapt. The forward lean and four-buckle closure transform it into a kind of armored tank that grips the snow and won't let go. Reduced volume to prevent slop and voids = maximum precision. The classic Scarpa ski/walk lever is easy to use, even while wearing thick gloves.
Skiing
Someone described it as like having a jaw clamped around your ankle and to be fair it does feel like you have a greyhound underfoot, ready to let rip in descent. The Grilamid BIO cuff and Pebax tongue makes the flex very progressive, even if it tends to give way slightly when stressed to the limit. Incredibly precise in descent, it reacts to the slightest stimulus, with no margin of error. It will go where you drive it and is incredibly responsive. It lets you charge as hard as you like, which is rare for a touring boot. Anyone who suffers the cold, beware: if you're looking for a warm, comfortable boot, go with the Gea RS.
