Intro
Sender is the freeride line from Rossignol that replaced the long-running 7 series a couple of seasons ago. It still has the classic honeycomb tip, designed to facilitate entry into turns, reducing inertia, and the VAS system in the tip and tail, to dampen vibrations and improve snow feel on compact terrain. It's a very directional ski, with lots of effective edge and hardly any rocker, completely unlike its predecessors. Wood and titanal give this ski its powerful structure, but in terms of weight it's still ok for short uphills.
On the snow
It takes just a couple of turns to realize that the Sender 92 is a ski with plenty of character. Its middling weight could trick you into thinking that it's docile and smooth, but don't be fooled. On piste it feels like a race carver at your feet, precise and stable on edge, especially comfortable at speed or being driven aggressively. It's definitely not a ski for everyone, you need excellent technique and to know how to manage speed on all types of terrain; the tail accelerates out of turns, and actively punishes the wrong stance. While it comes into its own on compact, steep or icy terrain and groomers, its overly stiff structure means that it doesn't float well and on soft snow is tiring and not much fun. Keep in mind that once you get to the top you're going to need a lot of strength left in your legs for the downhill; it won't tolerate indecision or hesitation.
Lab
Slightly concave at the tip, flat in the center and concave/convex at the tail. Still not perfectly flat after ten runs through the machine. No structure or wax. Reasonably good edges 1.8 x 1.8 mm at 90°, base edge 0.5°. Terrible finish on the base and rough on the edges, tuning desperately needed.
