Intro
The third year on the market for this version; it's the stiffest boot with tech inserts from the Italian ski maker. This season it's had a slight makeover; the liner has been reinforced with extra padding where needed, while more sustainable plastics have been used in both the PVC free-liner and the shell. It weighs almost 200 g more than the Light DYN, making it warmer and better able to absorb shocks, almost on a par with an alpine boot.
Walking
Entry is smooth and it's comfortable to wear, even for larger feet, with no pressure points. It's an unashamedly downhill-oriented boot suited mainly to resort skiing. Walk mode is for short uphill sections when looking for fresh tracks within easy range of the lifts. The cuff creates resistance to the front, where it limits movement walking on steep sections; while at the back it presses down on the Achilles tendon due to the overly high pivot point.
Lab
Four sturdy micro-adjust buckles with three-stage release: well-thought-out, functional design. The customizable shell and liner are anatomically shaped to closely follow the contours of the foot. The liner is very stiff, yet it still manages to envelop the foot. The ski/walk mechanism still needs improvement: it sometimes jams and the shell and cuff bang together. A robust power strap adds extra stiffness.
Skiing
This type of boot is ideal for skiers who mainly stick to the lifts and generally use skinny alpine skis, dusting off their fat skis on powder days. Anyone who loves carving turns on groomers will appreciate the aggressive edge grip, but when necessary you can really lean into the boot and take full advantage of the excellent support to the front and back. The high volume of the shell and liner, as well as the excessive amount of material in the tongue of the liner, dampen vibrations but reduce the sensitivity of the foot and the ability to adapt to changes in snow conditions. It's a little more unwieldy than the Light model when it comes to tight turns.
